Teen charged with four counts of murder in Canada shooting

Hundreds of people have attended a church vigil in memory of the four victims of Friday’s school shooting in the remote community of La Loche in Saskatchewan.

A 17-year-old boy who cannot be named under Canadian law because he is under 18, has briefly appeared in court to be remanded in custody. He has been charged with four counts of murder.Seven others were wounded in the incident.

The teen was described as sensitive and quiet who was often teased about his large ears, according to a La Loche resident. Witnesses said during the shootings at the high school he had spared those who had been kind to him.

There have now been calls for more investment in mental health services in the area.
