Kerry: US, EU immediately lift nuclear-related sanctions

The historic deal between Iran and the P5+1 countries has finally come into effect. The deal’s implementation has ended a decades-long stand-off on the country’s nuclear program. Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says all nuclear-related sanctions on Tehran are now lifted.
Zarif made the remarks during a joint press conference with E-U Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini in Vienna. Zarif also said Tehran will remain fully committed to the deal’s implementation from now on. His remarks followed a statement by the chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Yukiya Amano, who confirmed Iran’s compliance with the deal.

Amano presented his report to the IAEA Board of Governors on Saturday. He also said relations between Iran and the agency will now enter a new phase. Under the deal, Iran will be allowed to have access to billions of dollars of its frozen assets. The country will also benefit from new oil, trade, and financial opportunities after Western sanctions against it are lifted.
