Ninety year-old Auschwitz survivor performs remembrance dance

A 90-year old survivor of Auschwitz survivor took to the stage in Berlin on Sunday to perform a dance depicting her personal view of her terrifying experience in the infamous concentration camp.

Eva Fahidi, who is Jewish-Hungarian, entitled her dance ‘Sea Lavender or The Elation of Being’ and performed it ahead of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Eva said that by performing the dance she found a much needed way to express feelings and memories.

She grew up in Hungary and at the age of eighteen she and her family were forcibly deported and sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau. Her mother and sister died in the gas chambers and her father perished due to the camp’s harsh conditions.

Eva wrote down her memories of the camp after a visit to Auschwitz in 2003 unsettled her.

She said she decided to perform the dance in Berlin because that was symbolic in being the place where all the central planning of the Nazi regime had taken place.
